
Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak was born in Samsun. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2006 and began working in the Department of Neurosurgery at the same university as an Assistant Professor in 2009. In 2011, he received advanced training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and completed a neuroscience PhD program on deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease at Maastricht University.
He played a key role in establishing a surgical training group for movement disorders and psychiatric diseases at Ondokuz Mayıs University and led the construction and establishment of the Neuromodulation Center—the first of its kind in Turkey—bringing together disciplines of movement disorders, psychiatric surgery, and pain surgery. He was appointed as the founding Head of this center.
His professional and scientific interests focus primarily on deep brain stimulation in movement disorders and psychiatric surgery. After serving as a Professor of Neurosurgery at Ondokuz Mayıs University, in May 2024, he was appointed Rector of Istanbul Atlas University, where he also serves as the Head of the Neuromodulation Center.
In addition to his academic and administrative roles, Prof. Kocabıçak is a Founding Member and Council Member of the International Deep Brain Stimulation Society, and the Chairman of the National Deep Brain Stimulation Society. He also serves as Co-Editor of the Deep Brain Stimulation Journal. Previously, he was a Functional Group Committee Member of the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (ESSFN), Chairman of the Turkish Neurosurgery Society Functional Group, and Council Member of the National Neuromodulation Society.
He has authored over 100 national and international publications on deep brain stimulation in movement disorders, epilepsy, and psychiatric disorders, and has delivered more than 80 invited lectures at scientific and social meetings.
He has contributed to the field through over 60 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters, with an H-index of 17 on Web of Science. He has also been actively involved in neurosurgical education and training at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa since 2014, mentoring medical students and residents as part of his academic role.
In addition to his work in education and research, he is a member of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society, the International Epilepsy Surgery Society, and the Deep Brain Stimulation Society. He currently serves as the President of the Division of Stereotactic and Functional Surgery of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society.
