FRANCESCA MORGANTE

Francesca Morgante is Professor of Neurology and Eleonor Peel Chair for the study of Ageing and Head of Neuromodulation and Motor Control Section at City St. George’s University of London.

She is honorary consultant neurologist at St George’s University Hospital, London.

She is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Parkinsonian syndromes, Dystonias, Tremor Syndromes, Rare and complex movement disorders and drug-induce movement disorders. Prof Morgante has 20-years expertise in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, Tremor ad Dystonia. Specifically, she has expertise in advanced DBS programming guided by imaging or neurophysiology. Other areas of expertise including subcutaneous and jejunal infusion therapies for Parkinson’s disease and Botulinum Toxin treatment of Dystonia, including task specific dystonias of the upper limbs.

Her research interests span from studying the neural mechanisms of movement disorders to developing novel neuromodulation paradigms to treat these neurological conditions. She has published more than 200 papers on peer-reviewed journals and many chapters in books focusing on Movement Disorders. Her research at City St. George’s University of London is supported by NIHR and Innovate UK.

She is one of the Associate Editors of Movement Disorders Journal and she is in the editorial board of Movement Disorders, Movement Disorders Clinical Practice, European Journal of Neurology and Journal of Neurology.

She is the Chair of the Education Committee of the International Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders Society.
